Aaliyah Movie!

It seems as though there is an Aaliyah movie in the works for 2014. At least that is what Aaliyah's Uncle, Barry Hankerson seems to be saying. Hankerson managed the late singers career under his label, Blackground Entertainment, since her debut in 1993 until her death in 2001. Although there was talk of a possible biopic at the start of 2008 with a slue of actress willing to take the role, the role was reported as casted and filled by Canadian singer Keshia Chante and set to premier on the 10th year anniversary of Aaliyah's death in 2011. At the time it was rumored to be in production it was also rumored that Bill Condon, director of Dream Girls, starring;  Beyonce Knowles, Jennifer Hudson, and Anika Noni Rose, would be the one to direct the possible biopic.

In a candid 2011 interview with Chris Yandek, Keshia Chante finally revealed that Aaliyah's family was never really comfortable with a movie being made about her life stating that "And from my understanding, there are people trying to create a movie and Aaliyah’s family are still mourning her loss and aren’t ready to share her story and create a film. So there’s a bit of back and forth thing with her family and with creative people. And I know that they would bless a movie being created, they’re just not 100 percent comfortable and unfortunately from my understanding they don’t have complete control of her estate. So a movie could technically be made without them green lighting it and I kind of think that’s unfortunate. So I want her family to be on board and to be happy with it. It’s still kind of" lingering in the air. I would love to play the part.      source: www.cyinterview.com

Obviously from the release of Aaliyah's recent single "Enough Said" featuring Drake (also Chante's Ex Boyfriend) under Hankerson's label, Blackground Records, it seems to be that Aaliyah's estate is under the control of Blackground to a degree. In 2009, a new name was thrown into the ring for actresses most deserving of the role to play Aaliyah by Aaliyah's own beloved fans. A young actress by the name of Lolita Price. Price is well known on YouTube for her soothing presence, advocacy, hair, and resemblance to Aaliyah. Although her entertainment credentials might not go as far back as Chante's, she does has earned a few accomplishments under her belt since 2009 with her appearance in the nationwide magazines, Hype Hair and Essence, she also has appeared on BET and now is the face of international beauty company Hairfinity.

Lolita as Aaliyah

It seems as though Hankerson might has heard the cries of the Aaliyah fans because during the latter half of 2012  he established a twitter account that list his recording artist JoJo whom was signed to Blackground in 2004, as his artist as well as Aaliyah,to address the much anticipated Aaliyah posthumous album produced by Drake after the release of  "Enough Said" but soon after he add a photo of Price with Aaliyah and the numbers 1.4.2014. The black and white was taken of Lolita by Rich Jackson who also worked with Jessica Sutta of The Pussycat Dolls.

Although there has not been much said from Hankerson or Lolita concerning the movie, blogs across the world are still showing comparison photos of the two side by side as well as with Keshia. On Instagram , a source close to Price revealed she knows nothing about the movie and is at the moment working on other projects. We have also been told that the Hankerson account may be a fake but when JoJo responded to a tweet sent out by Hankerson's account we are on the edge of our seats. Maybe, just may we might see an Aaliyah movie next year!

  3. That is a lie just because she can favor Aaliyah just a little bit does not mean she will be good enough to play her!! Lolita has plenty of work that needs to be done dancing, singing, stage presence before she can even consider playing a big role such as Aaliyah. So get the hell out of here.

  4. I agree with jasmine no one can ever play baby girl other than herself, people need to just let her rest, if you are a true fan of AALIYAH than you would let her and her family be at peace

  5. Just because you think she looks like Aaliyah, doesn't mean she'll do a good job playing the role. That's the most important part and many of you don't understand that. Jamie Foxx doesn't look like Ray Charles, but he did a good job portraying him; Leon doesn't look like David Ruffin and he did a good job portraying him; Halle Berry doesn't look like Dorothy Dandridge and she did a good job portraying her. It's not about who look like her, it's about who can portray her the best.
